For years, we've been seeing teasers and leaks about a tri-folding Samsung phone, and it's finally coming soon. Many expected Samsung to showcase the fancy "Galaxy G Fold" at its Unpacked event this week, alongside the all-new Galaxy Z Fold 7. No such phone was revealed, but there's still some good news for the future.
Roh Tae-moon, Samsung's acting head of Device Experience Division, told The Korean Times that the company's wild new tri-fold smartphone will be released later this year. According to reports, Roh said, "We are working hard on a tri-fold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year. We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided on its name. As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon."

I Was the Galaxy Z Fold's Biggest Fan, But the New Model Is Dead to Me
No other device has broken my heart quite like this.
While Samsung's rep said it's coming at the end of this year, it's important to note that the spokesperson said "with the goal of launching at the end of the year," meaning there is still a chance things will get delayed into 2026. And considering how unique a tri-fold phone is, we're not holding our breath.
We got our first glimpse of things to come at Samsung's Unpacked event in January, where a tri-fold phone was shown on stage. That led many to believe it'd arrive this week, but unfortunately, that didn't happen.
Samsung hasn't given it an official name, although we've seen early demo versions of a tri-fold phone called the "Flex G," or similar variants. Furthermore, last week, Android Authority spotted animation files in Samsung's newly released One UI 8 software (based on Android 16) showing a triple-folding phone named the Galaxy G Fold. That's because the phone folds shut with a G-shaped pattern, which is different than others on the market or previous concept devices.
Considering files for the device are present in One UI 8, it's clear that the device is in the testing phase, and it's possible Samsung wanted to unveil it this week, but it wasn't ready for primetime. Either way, it's clear that Samsung is gearing up to release a neat new tri-fold phone to take on Huawei's Mate XT. We'll be patiently awaiting its arrival, even if it'll be wildly expensive.
