The 2025 Genesis GV80 Is a Class-Leading Mid-Size SUV

If you're looking for a plush SUV with a spacious interior, you have some pretty well-established options available to you. In this sea of legacy luxury SUVs, Genesis has established the GV80 as an exciting alternative, with interior comfort that is unmatched and a price tag that is thousands of dollars lower than its core rivals. This is particularly impressive considering Genesis has only been a standalone brand since 2015.

2.5T Advanced

3.5T Advanced

3.5T Prestige

We aren't trying to say that the GV80 is an SUV for people wanting luxury on a budget. What we are trying to say, is that if you're shopping in the mid-size luxury segment, you'll find that the Genesis is one of the most affordable options available. Traditional options here can cost anywhere between $65,000 and $85,000. What makes this particularly impressive is that the GV80 comes equipped to rival its most opulent rival, unlike other cheaper options that are marred by compromise.

All GV80s come exceptionally well-equipped, with a stack of standard features that will blow you away. However, if you're looking for the trim that offers the best bang-for-your-buck, the 3.5T Advanced is mighty alluring. Alongside the additional power on offer thanks to its twin-turbo V-6, this model also gets features like a panoramic sunroof, four-zone automatic climate control, and an exceptional Bang and Olufsen sound system, among other things.

Changes For 2025

For the 2025 model year, Genesis has made some pretty big changes to their mid-size SUV. To start, it gets a brand-new grille, looking even sleeker than before. They have also pulled the Micro Lens Array headlights from the G90 sedan. There are also new wheel options on offer, including some very stylish 20- and 22-inch designs. Storr Green is a new paint option on offer, which can come in glossy or matte.

On the inside, Genesis has also updated some of the tech offerings in the GV80 to keep it ahead of the competition. The infotainment screen and gauge cluster now share a single pane of glass, with the touchscreen being 27-inches wide. There are also three new interior color choices on offer: Earth Brown, Bordeaux Brown, and Glacier White. The Korean luxury automaker has also added the GV80 Coupe to the lineup, but we'll dive into that model separately.

Warranties and Maintenance

  • Limited Warranty - Five Years or 60,000 Miles
  • Powertrain Warranty - Ten Years or 100,000 Miles
  • Complimentary Maintenance - Three Years or 36,000 Miles

Genesis is the luxury arm of Hyundai, which means that they offer the same warranty package as their mainstream sibling. This means that Genesis offers the longest powertrain warranty of any luxury brand available in the U.S. Bumper-to-bumper coverage is also well above average. Rivals like the BMW X5 and Volvo XC90 also get three years of complimentary maintenance, but Genesis sweetens the deal by coming and picking your car up when its time for a service and offering you a loaner while you wait.

A Rich and Elegant Cabin Makes Your Commute Feel Like a Spa Day

Genesis is slowly but surely building its brand image, and the quality of their interiors is playing a big role in their appeal. They have struck a nice balance between old-school opulence and new-school technology, delivering the best of both worlds without the two clashing heavily. The GV80 is a masterclass in this design ideology, being one of the most comfortable mid-size luxury SUVs you can own.

The GV80 is a two-row SUV as standard, with a third row of seats being an optional extra. The third row is fairly cramped though, and we think that the Genesis does better without it. In the first and second rows, passengers are offered a ton of space to stretch their legs and even the tallest of occupants won't find themselves particularly squished. Cargo capacity is also pretty good for this segment, with plenty of room in the trunk behind the second row of seats.

It is really hard to describe just how rich and decadent the GV80's cabin feels, particularly when fully-kitted. Even the most affordable trims, however, come with open-pore wood and metal accents as well as plenty of other classy finishes. The seats can come upholstered in Nappa leather, with heating, ventilation, and a massage function all on offer.

Infotainment and Technology

As mentioned earlier, the Genesis GV80 gets a brand-new infotainment screen and gauge cluster for the 2025 model year. The single 27-inch screen sits atop the dashboard, with half displaying the infotainment system and the other half displaying gauges. These two systems integrate seamlessly, with it not feeling like there is a defined split between them. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every model.

As well as the four USB-C slots on offer, there is a wireless smartphone charging pad. The standard sound system on offer comes from Lexicon, with the optional system on the top trims being an 18-speaker Bang and Olufsen 3D setup. There are also mics in the cabin which work with the sound system to deliver active noise cancellation, making the interior a pretty serene place to be.

Creating a unique experience curated for you is the name of the game in the GV80, with everything being totally customizable. The Mood Curator feature controls things like lighting, seat massage, curated soundtracks, and even scents to create different atmospheres depending on what vibe you're looking for. These are all linked to your driver profile, which is accessed via a biometric fingerprint scanner.

Two Smooth and Powerful Engines Are On Offer in the GV80

As is obvious when looking at the trim levels, the GV80 is offered with either a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine or a 3.5-liter turbocharged engine. While many look down their noses at four-cylinder engines, particularly in luxury cars, the base powertrain is an overachiever and still very impressive. If you do want some extra grunt, though, the V-6 is exceptional.

If you stick with the base four-cylinder engine, you're not going to be disappointed. It delivers more power than most other four-bangers on the market and makes the GV80 feel plenty peppy. While it may not get to 60 miles per hour all that much faster, the twin-turbo V-6 will definitely better satisfy those who want a little bit more power. Both powertrains come standard with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Despite its size, the GV80 actually feels pretty athletic. Steering feel is good and handling feels smooth and predictable. While it does have a note of sportiness to it, the real star of the show is how quiet and comfortable it is. The compliant ride soaks up every bump in the road, with you hardly even knowing they were there to begin with. There is also a ton of sound insulation at work, which adds to the serene feeling.
